Quick observation. In the ML/AI class I’m taking there’s an obvious range in age between all the students. On the first day, a majority was chatting about having a way to collaborate and communicate with each other with a chat app. Slack, was an obvious one. Personally, slack is up there with urgent response time next to text messages. As they’re usually work related messages. I suggested discord, which I use off hours outside of work and have joined a number of tech related servers. WhatsApp. I hate group texts. I rarely open the app because there’s so much activity. Sometimes, I use signal. Today, with one my colleagues we talked about project management tools and among those mentioned were Asana, Monday, and Notion. Not mentioned was Trello…or MS Project, oof. C’mon it deserves a notable mention. What do you think? Do you think sometimes software prefernces align with generational preferences?
I did a quick search, hoping to find an article…but here’s some quick overvies from Gemini.
Search Term: Generational Productivity Application Preferences
Generational differences influence productivity application preferences, with Baby Boomers favoring stability and robust, traditional desktop applications, Gen X valuing work-life balance and independence, Millennials seeking purposeful, flexible digital-first platforms and recognition, and Gen Z preferring tech-savvy, collaborative, and digitally-native applications that support their desire for instant feedback and clear expectations.
Ok, that’s not what I mean.
Adjusted Search Term: Generational Productivity App Preferences:
Generational differences influence productivity app preferences, with younger generations (Gen Z, Millennials) preferring intuitive, tech-savvy, and integrated tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Trello, favoring AI and automation to streamline work. Older generations (Baby Boomers) may prefer quieter, more traditional, and private environments with less tech reliance, while Gen X values independence and work-life balance, often using a blend of digital and traditional tools.
Ok, that’s more like it. Anyway, just jotting down a quick observation. Trailing thought… hopefullly hiring teams look for not just diversity in skillset and experience but also in generation/age as well due to different approaches and methods.
